Buying firewood is not as straight forward as you may think.  There are a few considerations like the type of wood you'd like to buy, the amount, the cut and also the age.  The biggest question we get is about the type of wood used.  Generally, only hardwood shuold ever be used in an indoor fireplace.  Resin and sap accumulate in soft woods and when burned can make a mess of chimney flue linings and even cause an unnecessary fire hazard.  At Saunders Landscape Supply, we only deliver Oak and Hickory wood for burning.  Even still, there are some big differences in how the wood burns.  Hickory burns much hotter than Oak and is therefore not for everyone.  It is especially useful if you are using wood to supplement home heating, or you have a particularly large fireplace, where temperatures diffuse more easily.

The quantity of firewood you buy should be commensurate with your storage area and how often you burn fires.  Something to be wary of is ordering too much wood - especially if it is stored or stacked against, or nearly against your home.  As you can imaging, if left sitting over a Spring and Summer, firewood could easily become a virtual condominium for various insects.  If you plan correctly, you should burn up most of your wood, depleteing your store by the end of the burning season.
